Program Overview:
The FLRA is looking for Second-Year (2L) and Third-Year (3L) law students to join their volunteer internship program. These positions are offered during Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Winter 2024, and Spring 2025, and are open only to students who will be enrolled during the time they are serving.
Each intern will work in a specific department within the FLRA, such as:
- Authority (Chairman and Member Offices)
- Office of the General Counsel
- Office of the Solicitor
During the internship, you will assist attorneys and staff by conducting research, reviewing cases, writing reports, and more.
Salary & Benefits
These internships are unpaid. However, the FLRA will provide the documentation you need to earn academic credit from your law school upon successfully completing the internship. Some students may also qualify for stipends or other funding from their school, so check with your institution to see what support is available.

Requirements

Responsibilities
As a Student Volunteer, you will work directly with FLRA attorneys on a variety of legal projects, including:
- Conducting legal research.
- Assisting with investigations into unfair labor practices (ULPs).
- Helping organize union elections.
- Interpreting case law.
- Analyzing and evaluating cases.
- Preparing detailed reports, memos, and presentations.
- Presenting findings both in writing and orally.
- Managing case files and performing administrative tasks.
Your assignments may include supporting activities like filing legal documents, reviewing materials, and responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or Privacy Act requests.
Qualifications
To be eligible, you need to meet these qualifications:
- Be a law student in your second (2L) or third (3L) year of an accredited law school.
- You must NOT have graduated before the term you’re applying for.
- If you studied law outside the U.S., provide a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency to show that your program matches U.S. standards.
